Google #1 and Microsoft #2 Again?

AI era has been here quite a while, who would win? possibly again Google and Microsoft just as search engines before. This article is about generic AIs, not specific-purpose AIs such as generators. Hard to compete with Google, Microsoft, but specific-purpose AI is still the scope for other companies.

The comparison between Google and Microsoft below is with '0 point' means not better than the other, '1 point' means better than the other.

Google:
  • 0 point) AI model: Gemini, equivalent to ChatGPT
  • 1 point) User base: Top point, almost monopoly in searching and AI is about seeking info too
  • 0 point) Data ready: Google has all Internet data ready for RAG
  • 1 point) Convenience: Search + AI preview + Continuing with AI after preview + Search results side-by-side while chatting.
Microsoft:
  • 0 point) AI model: Copilot (ChatGPT), equivalent to Gemini
  • 0 point) User base: Loser to Google with current user base
  • 0 point) Data ready: Microsoft has all Internet data ready for RAG too
  • 0 point) Convenience: Search + AI preview + Continue with AI button is not prioritized as first button + No search results side-by-side.
Note: Microsoft has Copilot with ChatGPT inside, Microsoft allied with OpenAI and even had invested into OpenAI some years before the first release of ChatGPT in 2022.

Other AI services can't complete with Google and Microsoft 'cause modern large models can't store the knowledge by themselves, they need Internet data ready and updated for RAG. Their AI models can be trained well, with convenient UI, but most will fail these:
  • No user base or building up from small amount
  • Data may be ready but not updated as Google and Microsoft which crawl and update data to every moment
The possible score: Google 2 - 0 Microsoft

The football score is about for info seeking services, ChatGPT (30% of Microsoft in 2026) is still slightly better for reasoning if one needs to discuss long for a while.
