Modern Google Sites is now different. Google Sites used to start with giving users the ability to create a website with useful utilities and embeds from multiple sources and easy to edit with drag-n-drop WYSIWYG features. But it gave users the URL to sites.google.com with a path after, this wasn't so practical for a website.
Google Sites now is complete, it lets users point or bind their domains to the sites created, the Google Sites solution is now practical.
In overall, Google Sites is free, no ads, no banners, no backlink required, and simply just good for making websites; now with hosted domain.
